Phoenix Steel Mills Limited — 132/33/11kV TCN Connection (Ogun State) 2021

Scope: Procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning of 6.6kV substation switchgears for the connection of Phoenix Steel Mills Limited to TCN as an eligible customer.

Delivery of the 6.6kV substation switchgears for Phoenix Steel Mills’ 132/33/11kV TCN connection, covering design, procurement, installation, and commissioning.

Design & Engineering: General Arrangement (GA) drawings, schematic diagrams, Bill of Materials (BoM), and Single Line Diagrams (SLDs) prepared for owner approval.
Procurement: 6.6kV, 3-phase, 50Hz, metal-clad indoor Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) with Vacuum Circuit Breakers (VCBs) and VCB panels, numerical protective relays, Current and Voltage Transformers (CTs/VTs), busbars, and marshalling panels.
Installation & Erection: Site preparation (foundations, trenches, and earthing to the main station grid); positioning, aligning, and bolting of the 6.6kV panels; busbar coupling and jointing to manufacturer torque specs; laying, dressing, and termination of HT XLPE power and control cables; and connection of the common tinned copper earth bar.
Testing & Commissioning: Pre-commissioning checks (visual inspection, mechanical checks, insulation resistance testing); electrical testing (contact resistance, high voltage, CT/VT checks, and relay testing); functional commissioning of interlocks, alarm schemes, and remote SCADA/DCS operation, with final tightening, removal of shipping braces, and space heater verification.
Documentation & Handover: As-built drawings, operator training on functional features, maintenance, and troubleshooting, and site handover.

650,000 bpd Dangote Oil Refinery — RFCCU Substation Switchgear Installation May 2022

Scope: EPC turnkey installation of 2 × 11/6.6/0.4kV switchgears for the Residue Fluid Catalytic Cracking Unit (RFCCU) Substation.

EPC turnkey delivery of two 11/6.6/0.4kV switchgears for the RFCCU substation at the Dangote Oil Refinery. Engineering and design covered detailed layouts, schematic diagrams, and cable schedules for the 11kV, 6.6kV, and 0.4kV systems, incorporating upgraded switchgear and transformer specifications. Procurement and installation included two 6.6kV/0.4kV switchboards, new motor control centers (MCCs), and distribution panels compliant with modern arc-resistant safety standards. Civil and structural works covered installation of the switchgears with numerical multifunction protection relays (IEDs) for improved diagnostics and protection, integrated into the substation automation system (SAS) and the refinery’s main DCS for real-time monitoring and control. Delivery was completed with pre-commissioning tests — insulation resistance, contact resistance, and functional testing — and full-load Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) to confirm performance before handover.

LACT Unit — Low Voltage Electrical Panel Upgrade October 2022

Scope: Procurement and repair services for the upgrade and replacement of low voltage electrical panels for the Lease Automatic Custody Transfer (LACT) unit.

Upgrade and replacement of the low voltage electrical panels for the LACT unit. Scope began with assessment and planning — inspection of the existing panel for damage and outdated components, and design of the new panel to meet the LACT unit’s load, voltage, and safety requirements. Works were executed with safe power isolation coordinated with control room operators to avoid operational disruption, followed by dismantling and removal of the old panel with wires labelled for reconnection.

Installation covered mounting and wiring of the new panel, connection of field wiring to the new circuit breakers with correct termination and grounding (extending short cables via junction boxes), and completion through functional circuit testing and insulation resistance checks to confirm all sensors and pumps operated as expected.

Dangote Oil Refinery — Emulsion Treatment Plant Grounding & Earthing System October 2022

Scope: EPC of the grounding and earthing system for the Emulsion Treatment Plant.

Engineering & Design: Four-point Wenner-method soil resistivity survey; fault current, step/touch voltage, and earth electrode resistance calculations using ETAP; design of the main earthing grid, earth pits, riser connections, and equipment bonding; lightning protection for tall structures and substations; and hazardous area classification to Zone 1/2 requirements — with earthing layout drawings, BOQ, and design reports as deliverables.
Procurement: Grounding conductors, earth electrodes, earth pits and inspection wells, connection and bonding materials, and lightning arrestors.
Construction & Installation: Trenching and installation of the underground copper mesh grid, driving of earth rods for low resistance, equipotential bonding of all metallic structures, vessels, pipelines, and cable trays, exothermic welding of underground connections for corrosion resistance, and construction of inspection pits.
Testing & Commissioning: Soil resistivity, earth continuity, and earth resistance testing, inspection, and documentation through pre-commissioning and commissioning.
